UCWEP takes part in COP16

We, as UCWEP and the Union of the World Electronic Press Council (UCWEP), took our place at the 16th Conference of the Parties (COP16) of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, which started today in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. UCWEP participates in various events to highlight the role of media in environmental issues and the contributions that digitalization can make in the fight against desertification.
In his statement to COP16, UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın stated that the fight against desertification requires global cooperation and awareness. Taşkın included the following statements in his message:
“Desertification is a global problem that has not only environmental but also economic and social effects. The responsibility of the media on this issue is of critical importance in raising public awareness and disseminating solution suggestions. As UCWEP, we are mobilizing our media power to contribute to this struggle by participating in COP16. By this means, we also strengthen our goal of international cooperation and developing joint projects.”
At the UCWEP stand, External Relations Coordinator Fatih Poyraz communicates with the participants one-on-one throughout the organization, conveying both UCWEP’s vision and how the media-digitalization connection can contribute to the solution of environmental problems. Our stand attracts great attention from international representatives and media professionals.
