New era, new goals at UCWEP

Journalist – Writer Hasan Taşkın was re-elected as the president of UCWEP.

Mayor Taşkın: We will continue to help the e-press publish in a free environment and defend the right to inform the public by protecting freedom of belief and human values.

UCWEP held its ordinary general assembly at its Headquarters in Istanbul. While Hasan Taşkın was re-elected as president at the general assembly, the bodies that will take office in the new period were also created. President Hasan Taşkın emphasized that they will continue to be the most important advocate of e-Press’ ability to publish in a free environment, and that they will continue to be the biggest followers of providing accurate information to the public by protecting freedom of belief and human values.

Stating that they will protect and develop free and responsible electronic media institutions and support independent e-press and similar bodies within the framework of international regulations, Mayor Taşkın noted that they want to help the development of institutions and organizations in this sector. Pointing out that they will develop cooperation with international organizations suitable for this purpose, Mayor Taşkın emphasized that e-Press has become indispensable for technological transformation and said that they will continue to help e-Press to provide free publishing.

Mayor Taşkın stated that in the age of e-Press, the world has entered a computer or a mobile phone, and said, “E-Press, which has become widespread in every field, needs corporate training in terms of accurate and impartial journalism. The reader is confused when it comes to news sharing, misleading news and perception news on social media. Thus, reliable or unreliable news sites are subject to points in the eyes of the reader.”

Mayor Taşkın stated that, as UCWEP, they will try to spread accurate and fast news through conferences, panels, and educational activities in the new period and said:

In the new period, we will carry out studies on social media literacy as well as internet media. In the digital age, the world is now at the tip of the keyboard. The language problem is also eliminated with automatic translation. We also follow how the e-press world is organized and continue to produce new projects accordingly. Every individual has the right to receive accurate information. We will fight to protect this right until the end. We will stand against lies, mistakes and perception operations until the end, by cooperating with every institution on this issue. We wholeheartedly believe that e-Press will become even more free as we progress towards achieving all these.

As UCWEP, we will not remain indifferent to the desertification problem of our world. That’s why we became a member of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). We, as UCWEP, stated that we are ready to provide all kinds of support to the United Nations’ efforts in this direction.

Stating that they will seek solutions to the problems of organizations and employees in the e-press world and that they will be the biggest supporter of press workers, Taşkın stated that for this purpose, they aim to cooperate with universities, academics, non-governmental organizations, digital publishing organizations, technology manufacturers and relevant names and institutions in other sectors.

The President wished the new board of directors and other bodies of UCWEP to be beneficial.
