“Journalism is the conscience of society”

January 10, Working Journalists’ Day, once again brought to the fore the efforts of journalists to ensure that society has access to accurate information and their commitment to their profession. UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın emphasized in his message on this special day that journalism is not just a profession but the conscience of society.

“Journalism is an Honorable Duty”

In his message, Hasan Taşkın drew attention to the difficulties of journalism and the social importance of the profession and said:
“Journalism is not only a profession, but also an honorable duty that requires social responsibility. I wholeheartedly congratulate all members of the press who struggle with difficulties in the journey of searching for the truth. A free press is the cornerstone of a strong society. In the digitalizing world, it is vital for journalists to ensure that the public has access to accurate information without compromising ethical principles. I wish success to all our colleagues and hope for a future in which they will work under the conditions they deserve.”

The Importance of Free Press

Hasan Taşkın pointed out the difficulties faced by journalists, especially in recent years, and the importance of press freedom, and pointed out the critical role of media workers in providing the society with accurate information. Taşkın stated that the profession of journalism has undergone a transformation in the digitalizing world, but journalists should not compromise their ethical values in this transformation.

Support for the Struggle of Journalists

Hasan Taşkın’s message is an important call that journalists’ efforts to inform the public should be supported. Stating that press workers should have better working conditions, Taşkın emphasized that society should be aware of its debt to journalists.

Importance of January 10

January 10 began to be celebrated as “Working Journalists’ Day” with the “Law No. 212” adopted in 1961, which aimed to improve the working conditions of journalists in Türkiye. While this special day once again reminds us of the honor and value of the journalism profession, it also reveals the importance of press freedom.

Hasan Taşkın’s meaningful message honored the struggle that continues despite the difficulties of the journalism profession, and once again emphasized how vital the support of the society to this profession is.

Congratulatory Message

On the occasion of January 10, Working Journalists’ Day, we wish success to all press workers in this challenging but honorable duty and thank them with gratitude for their devoted work. Happy Working Journalists’ Day!
