“Press workers are defenders of the truth”

UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın published a message on the occasion of January 10, Working Journalists’ Day.
Taşkın included the following views in his message:
“Journalists, who fulfill the people’s right to receive accurate news, also mirror the rulers. Free press is an important contribution to the development of the country.
The Press is also the common voice of the Nation. It is not acceptable for journalists who fulfill their right to be the voice of the nation and receive news to be punished or imprisoned for their news.
It is a world-wide accepted fact that the development of countries is equivalent to freedom of press and expression. Criticisms and complaints in this regard should be taken into consideration in our country.”
Noting that there are economic problems experienced by journalists in Türkiye and around the world and that there are hundreds of unemployed press members in our country today, UCWEP President Taşkın expressed his hope that the necessary steps will be taken to overcome all these problems in the coming years.
President Hasan Taşkın said, “I congratulate the press workers, who are the greatest representatives of objective journalism in the world and in Türkiye, on January 10, Working Journalists’ Day, and I hope that they will continue their independent path to inform the public accurately in today’s world marked by global wars.”
