Reliable information, a stronger society: Taşkın’s assessment

UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın once again reminded us of the importance of accurate information on social media.
Taşkın said, “The rapid spread of misinformation divides societies, increases distrust, and threatens democratic processes. Therefore, both as social media users and journalists, we must be more careful about accessing and disseminating accurate information.” he said.
Taşkın made the following warnings in his written statement:
* Check sources: Before sharing any information, be sure to check the reliability of the source.
* Think critically: Question how the information you share makes you feel. Act with logic instead of emotion.
* Report misleading content: Use social media platforms’ tools to report misleading content.
* Follow reliable sources: Follow reputable media outlets and experts to follow accurate and reliable news.
Taşkın made the following call to Internet journalists:
* Verify the news: Be sure to verify the news before publishing it.
* Be impartial: Present your news objectively.
* Raise awareness of your readers: Raise your readers’ awareness about accessing correct information.
UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın concluded his words as follows:
Media literacy education should be provided in schools and communities.
Social media platforms must take more effective measures to prevent the spread of misinformation.
Academics, journalists and technology experts should collaborate and seek solutions.
