General Director of Combating Desertification and Erosion Prof. Dr. Kasım Yenigün made important statements to Hasan Taşkın, President of UCWEP, at the COP16 Summit held in Riyadh. Prof. Dr. Yenigün talked about Türkiye’s work on combating desertification and erosion and its priorities at COP16.
Türkiye’s Strategic Approach to Combating Desertification
Prof. Dr. Drawing attention to Türkiye’s long-term plans to combat desertification and drought, Yenigün said, “Desertification is a global problem that is faced not only by Türkiye but also by the whole world. In this context, we are trying to find solutions with the projects we carry out in areas such as afforestation, water management and sustainable agricultural practices.”
Türkiye’s Priorities at COP16
Explaining Türkiye’s main goals at COP16, Yenigün particularly emphasized the importance of international cooperation:
“This summit in Riyadh is a very important platform for sharing knowledge and experience between countries. As Türkiye, we stand out with innovative technologies, projects based on the participation of local people and sustainable land management policies.”
Projects that set an example to the world
Talking about the projects carried out by Türkiye at national and international levels, Yenigün stated that the afforestation projects carried out in cooperation with the TEMA Foundation and the measures implemented in areas at risk of desertification were appreciated worldwide.
Call to Youth and Media
Prof. Dr. While completing his statements, Yenigün called on young people and the media through UCWEP President Hasan Taşkın:
“The media has a very important role in raising awareness on this issue. We can reach large audiences and mobilize societies, especially through digital platforms. We want young people to take an active part in this struggle.”
