A first for Türkiye as UCWEP appoints an official representative to the UNCCD

A historic step has been taken to increase Türkiye’s influence in the international arena! UCWEP appointed an official representative to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) in order to strengthen global cooperation in the fight against desertification and land degradation.
With this development, for the first time, a Turkish non-governmental organization gained the right to direct representation at the UN UNCCD. Agricultural Machinery and Technologies Engineer Kerim Taha Taşkın, appointed by the International UCWEP within UCWEP, will represent Türkiye at the UNCCD meetings. Taşkın will prepare reports on sustainable agricultural technologies, coordinate media and civil society cooperation in the fight against desertification, and manage relations with UNCCD members.
TURKEY’S GLOBAL VISION IN FIGHTING DESERTIFICATION
While drought and desertification are becoming a growing threat worldwide, Türkiye’s leadership in this critical field is becoming stronger. UCWEP aims to raise awareness and develop solution-oriented projects in the fight against desertification by using media and technology.
This appointment was made within the scope of the International UCWEP becoming an official member of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). While UCWEP’s membership in UNCCD paves the way for Turkish non-governmental organizations to take a more active role in global environmental policies, it demonstrates Türkiye’s determination to combat desertification more strongly at the international level.
